The 411: The top 5 kids crafts websites

by

Fuller enjoys coloring, finger painting, and doodling on his magnadoodle. I wouldn’t say that he loves it and won’t do anything but that, but I can tell he does enjoy cramming as much color onto a piece of paper as possible. And he has entered the “ew” phase of toddlerhood- where he hates having anything on his hands. So, finger painting hasn’t been that cool lately.

But I have a feeling, based on the genes this kid carries, he is going to have his chance to be even more creative. He has a dad who sews elaborate Halloween costumes, a grandmother who does beautiful calligraphy, another grandmother who makes crafts for craft shows, and a mom who writes and crochets.

I’m looking forward to the day that we can start doing craft projects and displaying them proudly on our mantle or fridge door.

Which is why today I offer you my top five kids crafts websites:

1. Crafttown free kids crafts. This site isn’t visually stimulating, but the amount of craft projects available are many. I really like the puffy paint made from shaving cream. Actually, that is one that Fuller can do!

2. Martha Stewart. Ok, you might be saying, “Duh, Alli” when I bring up Martha Stewart, but gang, she is one of the first places I go. In fact, I love looking at the kids crafts because those are crafts I can usually do on my own. And yes, I admit that I get a bit of a thrill when I tell people it is from the Martha Stewart website. Of course I don’t tell them that it came from the kids section. Also, there are videos. That helps parents a lot.

3. Family Fun. I love the magazine, when I read it at the dentist’s office or my friend’s house. Their arts and crafts section is a great go to when you have a theme or party in mind. And having a craft by age section makes it really appealing.

4. Have you checked out the Idea Box? It is a site that adds a craft a day, which gives you no excuse to not have some idea of something to do. You can sign up for a newsletter as well, so really, can you tell your kids you have nothing for them to do?

5. And lastly, my favorite, favorite, favorite site ever is Kids Craft Weekly. Every week I get a newsletter full of ideas centered around a certain theme. Amber, the mom who runs Kids Craft Weekly, is really creative and tests all her projects on her own “poppets.”

I love my time with Fuller and am looking forward to the day he focuses a bit more and we can make puffy paint or scrunchy blossoms. And I hope that you enjoy your time with your kids, crafting and getting to know each other well.
