The 411: Parent Blogger Jennifer Remeta

by

Today’s parent blogger interview is with another 451 Press blogger, Jennifer Remeta. She keeps us up to date on her adorable son, Alex over at Parenting Toddlers.

I sent her a list of questions and she promptly returned them with answers and everything!

So, meet Jennifer, add her to your feedreader, and tell her Alli sent you!

First, if you can pass along any basic info you are comfortable sharing…

My name is Jennifer Remeta, I’m 30 years old and I live in Greenville, South Carolina with my husband, Nick, my adorable son, Alex, and my three furkids, Diesel the Great Dane, Abby the Lab, and Pandora the Queen Cat. Nick and I have been married three years in September, and he truly is my perfect match.

2. How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging about six months now, but have been writing regularly since elementary school (a long, LONG, time ago!)

3. Why did you start?
I’m a writer at heart, and there’s nothing I like more than writing about my son. Blogging also helps me sort out my thoughts and ideas regarding parenting, and gives me a chance to share pictures and updates with family and friends all over the country.

4. What do you get out of blogging? Do you think that blogging helps you as a parent?
I think blogging definitely helps me as a parent. I find the best advice to be had most often comes from other parents who have already been where I am now. Plus I get the added benefit of occasionally making my readers laugh, and that’s always fun.

5. You use your kids’ names and pictures in your blog (at least I am assuming they are your real names and pictures). Do you ever worry about internet safety for them?
Not really. Alex is too young to “use” the internet, so I don’t worry about internet predators, and since I’m a stay at home mom who’s a bit on the overprotective side, I’d like to see what’s left of the guy who did try anything in person. I do make certain to avoid specifically identifying info though like addresses, phone numbers, etc.

6. Do you have topics about your family that you will not write about in your blog?
I try to avoid extremely adult topics. People visit my blog to read about Alex, and to get hints about parenting in general. Throwing more adult topics in there might be disrespectful to some.

7. Will you let your kids blog if they ever ask?
Most likely, though I would probably monitor it regularly. It might be awhile, he’s probably going to have to learn the alphabet first. :-)

8. What do you do when you are not blogging?
I’m a freelance writer. I’ve been published in the Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul series (a story about my lab, Abby), and in various online magazines. I also do transcription work from home.

9. Do you have any parenting websites that you like to reference when looking for information on specific parenting topics?
I use www.babycenter.com a lot, and of course www.webmd.com !

10. Do you have any favorite parent bloggers you like to read on a daily basis?
I love to read about what Ben and Bennie are doing at http://benandbenniewaddell.blogspot.com/, and I also like to keep up with Wendy and John’s adoption journey on Adoption and Fire at http://adoptionandfire.typepad.com/.
