The 411: Parent Blogger Interview where it is all about me, me, me!

by

The alternate title for today’s interview could be, My Bad.

For most of the day yesterday, I thought it was Monday. So the thought that I needed an interview complete for today never crossed my mind. This is one of those time management skills I need to learn- remember the actual days of the week. Or get a calendar and post it somewhere obvious. Like over the coffee pot, which I visited way too many times yesterday.

Anyway, I tried to get a last minute interview but she is busy with sick kids and I know what that is like. When Fuller was sick, the last thing I wanted to do was write any blog entries. I know Jennifer offered to sign up and Jennifer, you are on my list, but I got lazy and kept forgetting to email you. Sorry.

Amy, over at Mom’s Daily Dose, gave me the perfect out for my personal miscommunication. (Yes, it is possible to miscommunicate with yourself.) Amy wrote about back story for bloggers, and I thought this would be a great time to tell you a bit more about myself.

When did you start blogging and why?

Fuller and MomI started blogging in 2002. I had an anonymous blog where I spilled my guts about trying to get pregnant and the fertility circus that ensued for the next two years. I really enjoyed being able to formulate my thoughts and get the support from others that I was craving.

When we finally got pregnant, I decided to move to an open blogging space, so that we could share our parenting journey with our friends and family. Since we have no family in this area, I thought they would enjoy reading about almost everything. And I was right! Our family are our biggest readers and I do it for them. And now I see our blog as a tool to remember what was going on in our lives during a certain time.

You blog very openly about your child, using his full name (which is quite unusual) and posting daily pictures of him. Are you worried about security?

When we moved to an open blog platform, I started using our names right away. I knew that I could never keep pseudonyms straight, and I think that blogging openly like that forms a trust with readers that is important.

I do worry about security, but I also worry that he will wander off when we go to the mall. I worry that he will fall off the slide at the park and crack his head open. I worry a lot about all kinds of aspects of his life. Not blogging his pictures or changing his name to something fake will not change that. I can’t let fear and worry control my life or my blogging.

You forgot to tell us your son’s full name.

Chef FullerOh, right. His name is Buckminster Fuller. My husband loved that name and as he learned more about the man, he decided that naming a son after him would be great. I only agreed if we could call him Fuller. When Fuller is older and understands about his full name, if he wants to be called Buck or worse, Bucky, then that is up to him. (Side note: my full name is Alicia, but when I was in 6th grade I started asking people to call me Alli. So I can’t really stop him from doing the same.)

When you are not blogging, what are you doing?

I love to crochet and watch TV. Now that Fuller is learning so much I am trying to learn more about homeschooling and meeting his education needs. We go to Kindermuisk once a week and Mom’s Group once a week. Now that the weather is nicer we are spending a lot of time outdoors taking walks and soaking up sunshine.

Where are your blog(s)?

IMG_2077Our family blog is at CRUMLEYdotORG.
I write a blog about Chattanooga and this one here.

Do you have any favorite entries?

I really like this one about my alarm clock.
This story about Fuller and a doorbell still cracks me up. And it will be great to tell his dates when he is in high school.

Well, that is all, thanks!
If you have any questions for Alli, I mean me, just leave them in the comments. If there are questions that you want me to ask other parent bloggers, then go ahead and leave them in the comments section too.
