Lessons Learned….

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Ok, so I’m starting this out a little hacked if you just want to know the truth.  Why is that you ask?  Because I was looking around, hunting some good links to refer on to you and I found one that I just new was going to be great.  It was title St. Patrick’s Day Crafts.  So, I thought, woohooo, this is a great place to start even if I did miss the whole holiday.  But, when I clicked the link, it took me to a doggone Spongebob page.  Do I have to tell you how much I hate Spongebob?  Cartoons in general are not my thing….but ergh….I was hacked.

So, I kept searching and low and behold, I did find a great site and it is way more appropriate anyway.  The site is entitled Games for the Whole Family.  And, they have a set of family games, outdoor games, parlor games, travel games (slug bug) and party games. You can also find a list of Card Games and Indoor Games as well.

Finally you can get a few links under News and Views that promotes the top ten board games, toys that think, kids that don’t and then expert advice section for safety first and rethinking children’s play.  And, finally, the page gives you a message board of resources….so yea, so much better than Spongebob.

The 411: buggy baby, part 2

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

A few months ago our Bradford pear tree was in full bloom. The pretty white blossoms made our yard look like it was ready for a wedding or something.

But, lurking around that tree was a necessary menace to society: the bee. It is necessary because without the bee those blooms wouldn’t happen. It is a menace because of the sting that come from the flying bugger, a sting that can cause some real problems.

I have been stung by a bee before and nothing really came from it except a bunch of tears. I remember it being painful, and swelling a little bit, but my memory is fuzzy after that. Now that I am an adult, I tend to stiffen my back whenever a bee is near, like it is going to just go away if I am perfectly still.

I don’t really know how to keep Fuller from experiencing a bee sting, but it is possible that it might happen and that it might be more to him than a little swelling. What if a bee sting is lethal to my little boy?

The 411: Tis the season for vinegar and Paas

I have a big day ahead of me. I have to whip this house into shape in order to feel like a proper hostess for a playdate tomorrow. Since staying at home, we have been to a few playdates and now it is time to reciprocate one. As a bonus, I am kicking my butt to get the house cleaned. (Here is a tip: invite someone that you aren’t as familiar with. I thought I would clean my house for a playdate with my bestfriend and I guess I am too comfortable with her because my house was wrecked when she came over.)

Egg bathThis past Sunday our church had a pancake dinner and dying eggs was part of the program for the little ones. Fuller got to dye his first egg and he seemed to have a pretty good time, so why not do it again? I called a mom from our church and asked her and her daughter to come over for egg dying, lunch, and a possible playground trip. So, in addition to cleaning the house, I am needing to prepare for two two and half year olds to dye hardboiled eggs.
